What is the YAAP?
The YAAP (Yet Another Access Point) is a personal access point that supports local file sharing and opportunistic network proxying. The small form factor allows the YAAP to be carried in your pocket or bag.Having a meeting in a location with no connectivity?
Connect to the YAAP and transfer files with ease without having to coordinate individual users or exchange a USB key.
The YAAP, pictured above with the development board attached, runs on a Stargate (designed by Intel Research) which uses an 400 MHz PXA255 Xscale processor.
On the bus to the airport and need to get that important email out?
Send your email, shut off your laptop or handheld device, and let YAAP do the rest. The YAAP will continuously search for publically available access points while you are travelling to your destination. As soon as it is able to connect, it will forward your email to its destination and even download any new messages you may have!Research Areas
The YAAP will be a test platform for multiple research projects Intel Research Cambridge.- Implement and test forwarding algorithms
- Mesh networking (multi radio)
- Auto-configuration of wireless networks
- Monitoring of wireless traffic
- Proxy server for in-motion applications
- Gain insight into the performance and design of mobile ad-hoc networks
