(412) 297-4110 (fax)Dean Pomerleau has been a researcher at Intel Labs Pittsburgh since the fall of 2008. Dean graduated from Carnegie Mellon with a PhD in computer science many years ago. After that, Dean was faculty in the CMU Robotics Institute, followed by several years building a startup company that sold collision warning devices for cars and trucks.
Dean's research interests include cognitive neuroscience, machine learning, computer vision, robotics, and man-machine interfaces. Dean's current research focuses on understanding how the brain recognizes, stores and recalls semantic information like "an airplane is manmade" using a variety of brain scanning technology, including fMRI, MEG, EEG and ECoG.
Dean's most unusual hobby is pet fish training. In fact, one of Dean's trained goldfish named Albert Einstein holds the Guinness World Record for "Pet fish with the most tricks" (9) - including underwater soccer, basketball, limbo and many others!
